TORRENCE, Calif., June 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has given the 2013 Honda Fit EV its highest ever fuel efficiency rating, the company said Wednesday.

The EPA bestowed a combined city and highway driving rating of 118 miles per gallon, topping the previous best 112 mpg earned by the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

Third on the list is the Ford Focus EV with a combined rating of 105 mpg. The Nissan Leaf is next with a 99 mpg combined rating.

The Fit can run 100 miles on 29 kilowatt hours and was given an EPA annual fuel cost estimate of $500.

"Just as important …," said Steve Center, vice president of the American Honda Environmental Business Development Office, "the 2013 Fit EV will be an absolute kick to drive."
