Britain weighing gasoline price-fixing probe of BP, Shell, Statoil


NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- Gold futures rose Friday, adding $16.90 and settling at $1,591.80 per troy ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The dollar gave commodities priced in dollars a boost. With the dollar index off 0.54 percent to 81.09, commodities priced in dollars were that much more attractive to foreign investors.
On the day, silver added 64 cents to $28.66 an ounce.
The euro fell to $1.2779 from Thursday's $1.278. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 79.02 yen from 79.01 yen.
The British pound was $1.5814 from $1.5819. The dollar was 1.0223 Canadian dollars from 1.0222 Canadian.
