
CHICAGO, May 17 (UPI) -- Grain futures were modestly higher Thursday on the Chicago Board of Trade, with the dollar index up 0.14 percent and futures benefiting from short covering.
Corn was up 1 1/2 to up 5, soybeans were up 4 1/4 to up 16, wheat was up 17 to up 19 and oats were up 1 to up 1 1/2.
Corn gained slightly with demand evidenced by a strong cash market. Wheat gained with the Climate Prediction Center's extended forecast calling for warmer-than-normal temperatures. Soybeans made modest gains that faded late in the day but held on toward the end of the session.

Corn: Jly 6.25 up 5, Sep 5.38 1/2 up 1 1/2, Dec 5.28 1/4 up 2, Mar 6.39 1/4 up 2.
Soybeans: Jly 14.38 up 16, Aug 14.05 1/4 up 10, Sep 13.47 1/2 up 5 1/4, Nov 13.06 1/2 up 4 1/4.
Wheat: Jly 6.57 3/4 up 19, Sep 6.69 1/2 up 18 1/4, Dec 6.88 3/4 up 17 3/4, Mar 7.03 1/2 up 17.
Oats: Jly 3.38 1/2 up 1, Sep 3.43 up 1 1/4, Dec 3.47 1/2 up 1 1/2, Mar 3.50 1/2 up 1 1/2.
