Inflatable pool slides recalled

WASHINGTON, May 14 (UPI) -- U.S. regulators said Walmart and Toys R Us Inc. are recalling 21,000 inflatable Banzai in-ground water slides due to the possibility of a severe neck injury.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said a 29-year old Colorado mother had died in Massachusetts after fracturing her neck going down a slide that had been placed over the concrete edge of a pool.

Her head hit the bottom of the slide because it had lost air and was not fully inflated, the commission said.

Other serious injuries have been reported, the commission said.

The pool slides were imported from China by Manley Toys Ltd. They were sold at Walmart Stores Inc., which has its headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., and Toys R. Us Inc., which has its head office in Wayne, N.J.

They were sold from January 2005 through June 2009 for about $250.

Consumers were advised to stop using the slides and return them to the retailer for a full refund.

Consumers can call 800-869-7787 for more information.
