Grains futures mixed on varied corrections

CHICAGO, April 20 (UPI) -- Grain futures were mixed Friday in Chicago with the dollar index falling 0.5 percent to 79.15 on the International Exchange.

Corn was off 5 to off 10, soybeans were up 20 1/4 to up 31, wheat was off 5 1/2 to off 9 and oats were off 1/2 to off 1 1/2.

Corn closed lower as Thursday's gains proved risky with confirmation of China entering the market turning out to be elusive. Wheat prices also went into a correcting pattern, as Thursday's concern of a hard frost was toned down in weather forecasts. Soybean prices rose sharply with reports of a 2 million to 3 million metric ton downgrade in South American production estimates.

Corn: May 6.12 1/2 off 8 1/2, Jly 6.03 off 9, Sep 5.45 off 10, Dec 5.36 3/4 off 5.

Soybeans: May 14.46 3/4 up 31, Jly 14.49 1/2 up 28 1/2, Aug 14.37 1/2 up 27, Sep 13.95 3/4 up 20 1/4.

Wheat: May 6.15 3/4 off 9, Jly 6.23 off 7, Sep 6.38 3/4 off 6 1/4, Dec 6.61 3/4 off 5 1/2.

Oats: May 3.22 1/4 off 1/2, Jly 3.24 1/4 off 1 1/2, Sep 3.27 1/4 off 3/4, Dec 3.34 off 1 1/2.
