Breaking News: Convicted Boston Marathon bomber Tsarnaev will seek a new trial

Grain futures mostly lower

April 18, 2012 at 5:38 PM

CHICAGO, April 18 (UPI) -- Grain futures were mostly lower Wednesday as early planting progress and continued beneficial weather for planting dictated the flow of buy and sell.

Corn was off 1 to off 15, soybeans were off 17 to off 18, wheat was off 1 1/4 to off 4 3/4 and oats were off 1 to unchanged.

Corn prices dropped with light rain expected in the Corn Belt -- not enough to be disruptive. Wheat prices dropped modestly with support found in Jordan's announced purchase of 50,000 metric tons. Talk of overbought conditions weighed on soybean prices as the dollar was flat -- the dollar index rising 0.03 percent.

The prices:

Corn: May 6.01 3/4 off 15, Jly 5.94 off 13 1/4, Sep 5.39 3/4 off 1 3/4, Dec 5.28 3/4 off 1.

Soybeans: May 14.07 3/4 off 18, Jly 14.13 1/2 off 18, Aug 14.02 off 17 1/4, Sep 13.68 1/4 off 17.

Wheat: May 6.10 3/4 off 4 3/4, Jly 6.15 3/4 off 4 1/2, Sep 6.31 3/4 off 3, Dec 6.54 1/2 off 1 1/4.

Oats: May 3.20 3/4 unchanged, Jly 3.22 3/4 off 3/4, Sep 3.26 1/2 off 1, Dec 3.34 1/4 off 3/4.
