Gold futures up modestly

NEW YORK, March 21 (UPI) -- Gold futures rose modestly Wednesday as equities were mixed on Wall Street and the dollar index was flat.

Gold added $3.10 on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange to reach $1,650.10 per troy ounce. Silver added 34 cents to close at $32.17 an ounce.

The dollar was mixed in Asia and Europe, with the index off 0.01 percent to 79.60 on the International Exchange.

The euro fell to $1.3212 from Tuesday's $1.3225. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 83.38 yen compared to Tuesday's 83.35 yen.
