Air France unions initiate four-day strike

PARIS, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Union workers at Air France said they will go on strike for four days, Monday through Thursday, to protest a proposed labor law.

The Local reported Friday the four-day strike, ending Feb. 9, is in protest of a law that would require airline unions to give 48 hours notice before any work stoppage.

This would give airlines a chance to hire replacement workers or make other arrangements when a strike is called.

Unions contend this defeats the purpose of a strike.

The measure has passed in France's National Assembly and is headed for a vote in the Senate.

Air France said it will "mobilize its teams to limit the impact" of the strike.
