OTTAWA, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The sale of new cars, trucks and buses declined 1 percent on a monthly basis in Canada in November to 137,640 units, Statistics Canada said Monday.

Sales of all types of vehicles declined, offsetting advances in September and October, the report said.

The largest decline was among minivans, sport-utility vehicles, light and heavy trucks, vans and buses, which fell 1.3 percent to 80,460 units, StatsCan said.

New car sales declined 0.5 percent to 57,180 vehicles. Sales of North American-built cars were down 1.4 percent but overseas-built car sales rose 1 percent, the report said.

The agency said preliminary data suggests there will be a 3 percent decline in overall new vehicle sales in December.
