Crude oil tops $102

NEW YORK, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices topped $102 per barrel Tuesday as stock markets turned higher on Wall Street, reaching levels not seen since mid-July.

The positive mood accompanies the latest corporate reporting season, with investors anticipating higher profits based on stronger economic data in the fourth quarter of 2011.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange Tuesday, February delivery West Texas Intermediate crude oil added $1.12 to reach $102.43 per barrel. Home heating oil added 0.97 cents to $3.1111 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline added 1.46 cents to $2.7874 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas prices shed 2.4 cents to $2.917 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline dropped to $3.372 per gallon from Monday's $3.374, AAA said.
