WASHINGTON, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will travel to Asia to discuss pressuring Iran to rethink its alleged nuclear weapons program, the department said.

The trip, set for next Tuesday through Thursday, includes a stop in Beijing, where Geithner will meet with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan one day and with Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice President Xi Jinping and Executive Vice Premier Li Keqiang the following day.

Secretary Geithner will then travel to Tokyo to meet with Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and Finance Minister Jun Axumi.

The purpose of the trip is to discuss policies to strengthen economic growth and "our continued coordination with international partners in the region to increase pressure on the government of Iran, including financial measures targeting the Central Bank of Iran," the department said in a statement.
