Holidays fail to revive two U.K. retailers

LONDON, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Two British retail chains said their finances are in dire straits, leaving shareholders to anticipate holiday sales would not pull them out of trouble.

Outdoor goods retailer Blacks Leisure said there were no buyers knocking on the door and shares were likely to lose their entire value, The Guardian reported Saturday.

Similarly, lingerie retail chain La Senza said it would file for court protection from creditors.

La Senza operates 146 stores and has 2,600 employees. It is owned by Lion Capital.

Blacks Leisure operates 98 Blacks and 208 Millets outlets and has a staff of 3,600, the newspaper said.

The board of directors said in a statement the company "does not have and does not now expect to receive an offer for the shares of Blacks Leisure."
