Gold posts modest gain

NEW YORK, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Gold futures made a modest gain Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, picking up $11.50 to close at $1,751.30 announce.

Analysts attribute the rise in part on discussions that more fiscal union in Europe would allow for more Central Bank stimulus measures.

For the week, gold picked up 3.9 percent, snapping a two-week losing streak.

Silver closed lower Friday, settling 7 cents down at $32.69 an ounce. For the week, silver gained 5.4 percent.

The euro was 1.3405 from $1.3463 Thursday. Against the yen, the dollar was 77.97 from Wednesday's 77.72 yen from Thursday's 77.63 yen.

The British pound was 1.5601 from Thursday's $1.5694. Against the Hong Kong dollar, the U.S. standard was 7.7679 from 7.7703 HKD on Thursday.

The dollar was 1.0183 against the Canadian dollar from 1.0141 Canadian. The Australian dollar was 1.0213 from Thursday's $1.0234.
