Cisco to build tech center in Russia

MOSCOW, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. technology giant Cisco Systems said it would open a network center near Moscow that would hire about 30 employees by the fall of 2012.

The initial project for the center that will be located at the technology hub of Skolkovo is going to be development of a system for analyzing large volumes of CCTV video material, RIA Novosti reported Tuesday.

In a separate project that has yet to meet with regulatory approval, Cisco is planning to develop sophisticated energy network systems.

"This project has not yet been approved, but is still regarded as a possible new phase of cooperation between Cisco and Skolkovo," said Pavel Betsis, general manager of Cisco Russia.

In June of 2010 Cisco President John Chambers said in a meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev the firm expected to put $1 billion into projects in Russia, RIA Novosti said.
