GM to recall 231,000 vehicles with fire hazard

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Administrators say two California State University campuses remained open Thursday despite a one-day strike over raises called by faculty members.
Faculty at Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State East Bay formed picket lines Thursday, protesting 2008-09 and 2009-10 school year pay raises that Chancellor Charles Reed has withheld, claiming state funding cuts have made the raises unaffordable.
The schools urged students to attend classes as usual, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The faculty union won the right to strike in 1983.
