Adobe Systems to cut 750 jobs

NEW YORK, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. software firm Adobe Systems Inc. said it would cut 750 jobs in the United States and Europe as part of a restructuring process.

In a statement, Adobe said the move was being made "to better align resources around Digital Media and Digital Marketing."

The restructuring, Adobe said, would cost up to $94 million in pre-tax charges.

Included in the new approach, the firm said it would end development of Flash plug-ins for mobile devices, such as phones and tablet computers. The Los Angeles Times reported.

In an online posting, Adobe's vice president of interactive development said, "HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively. This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms."

"We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations … following the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook," he said.

He added Adobe would continue to provide technical support and security updates for products already in use.
