Gold climbs Thursday

NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Gold prices climbed Thursday as the U.S. dollar index dropped for the second consecutive trading session.

The dollar index, which rose 1.92 percent Monday and 1.06 percent Tuesday, settled back, dropping 0.31 Wednesday and another 0.48 percent Thursday.

On the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold gained $34.70 to close at $1,764.30 per troy ounce. Silver added 56 cents to reach $34.51 per ounce.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil settled at $92.84 per barrel, up 65 cents.

The euro rose to $1.3817 from Wednesday's $1.3747. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 78.09 yen from Wednesday's 78.85 yen.

The dollar was mixed in Asia and broadly lower in Europe.

The British pound rose to $1.6042 from Wednesday's 1.5949. The U.S. dollar was 7.7674 Hong Kong dollars from 7.7699 HKD.

The U.S. standard fell to 1.0072 Canadian dollars from 1.0143 Canadian. The Australian dollar rose to $1.0416 from $1.0346.
