More to U.S. oil than North Dakota, EIA says
WASHINGTON, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Payroll company Automatic Data Processing said Wednesday the private sector added 110,000 jobs in October, a slight decline from jobs added in September.
October's figure is ahead of the 91,000 jobs added in September that ADP announced a month earlier. But that figure has been revised with ADP now saying 116,000 jobs were added in September.
The figure for September came in slightly higher than the 101,000 expected.
The numbers are not high enough to nudge the 9.1 percent unemployment rate lower, said University of Maryland School of Business professor Peter Morici, who predicts the Labor Department, which also tracks public sector jobs, would announce a gain of 90,000 jobs for October.
The ADP report said small businesses added 58,000 jobs, while businesses with 50 to 499 employees added 53,000. Larger firms, those with 500 or more workers, saw payrolls decline by 1,000.
The hiring pattern is consistent with September, when larger firms in the initial report lost 5,000 jobs with medium and small businesses making all the gains.
