Lithium-poly battery back recalled

WASHINGTON, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Dulles, Va., importer Electric Motion Systems LLC is recalling 70 lithium-poly battery packs after three reports of batteries catching fire.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the rechargeable lithium-poly battery packs are black, 27 volt units, designed for electric bicycles and propulsion systems.

The batteries are 8.75 inches by 5.75 inches by 3.25 inches in size. They have "EMS# 11819-101" printed at the right top of the label and include a serial number between 10001 and 10200.

The rechargeable battery packs were imported from China and sold at: bike shops nationwide from October 2009 through November 2010 for $900 to $1,000.

The entire E+ Flex Kits sold for $2,325 to $2,675.

Consumers were advised to stop using the battery packs and contact Electric Motion Systems. Consumers who own the E+ Flex Kits will receive as free battery pack installed on a new front wheel for their electric bike.

Those who purchased just the battery pack will be offered several choices for reimbursement, including a new, free frame to fit with the consumer's electric propulsion system.
