CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Apple's next iPad will likely not be available this year, but when it arrives, it will probably include retina display imagery, U.S. media are reporting.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the iPad3 will have the same screen capabilities as the iPhone 4, which includes a screen resolution of 2,048 by 1,536 -- 326 pixels per inch.

Earlier versions of the iPhone had resolutions of 1,024 by 768 -- half the resolution of the iPhone 4.

CNet, a consumer technology Web site, reported the Samsung and LG were developing display panels to fit Apple's specifications, but were having trouble "reaching good enough yields of the display," which likely meant the next version of the wildly popular iPad would not be available this year.

Apple is famously secretive about products in development.
