Grains close mostly lower Thursday

CHICAGO, June 23 (UPI) -- Grains futures closed mostly lower on the Chicago Board of Trade Thursday as beneficial weather combined with demand concerns.

Corn was off 4 3/4 to up 3, soybeans were off 12 1/2 to off 15 1/4, wheat was off 9 3/4 to up 10 3/4 and oats were off 3 1/4 to off 4 3/4.

Corn was mixed with the July contract higher despite a 0.44 percent gain in the dollar index. Wheat also closed mixed with Egypt purchasing 240,000 metric tons and Statistics Canada reporting wheat acreage up 11.9 percent from a year ago. Soybean prices were jolted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture announcing order cancellations amounting to 452,500 metric tons.

Corn: Jly 6.80 1/2 up 3, Sep 6.68 off 4 1/4, Dec 6.46 off 4 1/4, Mar 6.57 3/4 off 4 3/4.

Soybeans: Jly 13.17 3/4 off 12 1/2, Aug 13.16 off 15, Sep 13.14 1/4 off 14 3/4, Nov 13.17 1/4 off 15 1/4.

Wheat: Jly 6.49 up 10 3/4, Sep 6.69 1/4 off 4, Dec 7.14 1/4 off 5 1/4, Mar 7.45 1/2 off 9 3/4.

Oats: Jly 3.48 3/4 off 3 1/4, Sep 3.54 1/4 off 4 3/4, Dec 3.61 1/4 off 3 3/4, Mar 3.73 3/4 off 3 1/4.
