Hackers admit to Sony cyberattack

WASHINGTON, June 4 (UPI) -- A team of hackers has claimed responsibility for cyberattacks on Sony Pictures Entertainment and a Web site associated with a U.S. law enforcement agency.

The hackers call themselves LulzSec, The New York Times reported Saturday.

Sony said Friday it was "looking into claims" from LulzSec that it had stolen information about 52,000 customers, the Times said.

In a joint statement, Michael Lynton, chairman and chief executive officer, and Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures, said, "We have confirmed that a breach has occurred and have taken action to protect against further intrusion."

Sony said it had "retained" a team of forensic investigators to look into the breach.

The hackers said they had taken "complete control" over a Web site for Infragard, which is associated with the FBI.

The group said they had "defaced" the Web site in response to the White House deciding to treat cyberattacks as "an act of war."
