Crude oil prices hold steady

NEW YORK, June 2 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices held steady in New York Thursday despite a global drop in equities.

Equity markets saw prices fall hard on Wall Street Wednesday and close mixed Thursday. Markets closed lower in China, Japan, Hong Kong, Germany France and Britain.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said crude oil inventories increased by 2.9 million barrels in the week ending May 27. The influential weekly report was delayed a day by the Memorial Day holiday.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, July delivery West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices added 54 cents to $100.87 per barrel. Home heating oil prices added 1.25 cents to $3.0564 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline prices gained 1.47 cents to $2.9824 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas prices lost 0.8 cents to $4.786 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline stood at $3.784 per gallon Thursday, up from Wednesday's $3.775, AAA said.
