EBay seeking ways to help mobile consumers

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 23 (UPI) -- EBay Chief Executive Officer John Donahoe said the U.S. Internet giant would focus expansion on helping mobile consumers connect with merchandise.

"A lot of eBay innovation will be around mobile," Donahoe said in a recent interview, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

"Our purpose is to bring consumers the best experience to find what they want, how they want and when they want it, whether it's on eBay or otherwise," he said.

EBay has already taken steps to expand its offering for plugged in, mobile customers. Last year, it bought RedLaser, which makes an application that helps consumers do store-to-online price comparisons and Milo, which helps consumers figure out if local stores have what they want in stock.

Donahoe said eBay is flush with cash, but had no deals around the corner.

"We have over $8 billion in cash," he said.

"There is nothing imminent but when we see something that will help our mission to connect buyers and sellers," eBay will act, Donahoe said.
