Judge allows case against Trump

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 19 (UPI) -- A judge in Florida said apartment buyers could proceed with a case against Donald Trump for allegedly misleading them on who was developing their building.

Judge Adalberto Jordan said condo buyers "could have believed that alleged misrepresentation," that centers on Trump licensing his name to a developer to build the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The project failed as the developer ran into financial difficulties and buyers are steamed as they have not had their deposits returned, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Buyers say they were sold on the project believing Trump was the actual developer. Legally, however, Trump had only licensed his name to the developer called SB Hotel.

Although purchasing agreements said SB Hotel is the developer, the documents did not say it was the "sole developer or that other defendants are not developers," the Judge Jordan wrote.

Buyers say Trump signed a letter used to advertise the project that said, "we have commenced construction," of the building. He also referred to the building as "my latest development," the Times reported.
