NEW YORK, April 18 (UPI) -- New York publishing house Viking Press said it would consult with the author of "Three Cups of Tea" after CBS' "60 Minutes" news show questioned its accuracy.

The book written by Greg Mortenson details his humanitarian work in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It has sold millions of copies.

The New York Times reported Monday Viking spokesman Carolyn Coleburn said in a statement that while Mortenson's work as a humanitarian in Afghanistan and Pakistan has provided tens of thousands of children with an education, "60 Minutes is a serious news organization and in the wake of their report, Viking plans to carefully review the materials with the author."

"60 Minutes" was critical of one of the book's primary stories, which details a village in northeastern Pakistan, Korphe, where villagers, Mortenson wrote, helped him recover after a failed attempt to climb the world's second-tallest mountain, K2.

Mortenson wrote that he pledged to return to build a school in the village in gratitude to the villagers' hospitality.

The program also called attention to management problems at the Central Asia Institute, a charity group Mortenson founded.
