CHICAGO, March 31 (UPI) -- U.S. employment company CareerBuilder said hiring for full-time, permanent positions was likely to improve in the second quarter.
In a survey of 2,800 hiring managers conducted Feb. 21 to March 10 by Harris InteractiveC, 28 percent of respondents indicated they would increase their permanent, full-time staff in the second quarter.
In a similar survey preceding the first quarter, 23 percent of hiring managers indicated they would add workers. However, by the end of the quarter more than that -- 28 percent -- had added to their payrolls, the survey found.
For the second quarter "if current survey trends persist, that number (28 percent) may ultimately come in higher at quarter end," the company said.
In the current survey, 6 percent of respondents indicated they would reduce staff in the second quarter, while 63 percent indicated they expected no change.
As the economy improves, 33 percent of hiring managers indicated they were concerned their employees would start shopping around for new opportunities.
Fourteen percent indicated their "top talent already left the organization," CareerBuilder said.
Results of the survey, which was sponsored by CareerBuilder and USA Today, carries a margin of error of 1.83 percentage points.
