Workers at GM plants would receive a check of more than $4,000 and an additional 3,000 blue-collar workers in supply company plants controlled by GM would be given at least $3,000 in bonus pay, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler have already announced bonus plans.

Ford, which earned a profit of $6.6 billion last year, said it would pay a bonus that averaged $5,000 for union workers. Chrysler, which lost $653 million in 2010, said it would pay hourly workers $750 as a bonus.

Before this year, GM's highest average for a bonus for hourly workers was $1,775 paid for work done in 1999.
