CHICAGO, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Turnover in the head office in November declined in January at U.S. corporations, a private research firm said Wednesday.
Challenger, Gray & Christmas, which tracks turnover among chief executive officers, said 96 CEOs departed last month, a drop from 107 who left their jobs in December 2010.
There were some headline changes in the head office, most notably at Google, where CEO Eric Schmidt -- who left with a $100 million severance package -- was replaced by Google co-founder Larry Page.
Challenger, Gray & Christmas said one third of January's departures, 31 of them, were due to resignations. Twenty-five stepped down, but remained with the company.
Government and non-profit firms had the most turnover in CEOs in the month, seeing 12 head honchos pack their bags. Financial and healthcare corporations each saw nine CEO departures.
