"I would think so," Ashton said, referring to the possibility that GM would produce bonus checks that beat their top average of $1,775, The Detroit News reported Tuesday.
GM, which earned a profit of $4.2 billion in the first three quarters of the year, is expected to report its bonus pay figures to UAW leaders in the middle of the month.
"We don't have the exact numbers yet." However, Ashton said, it "will be one of the bigger ones, I'm sure."
"If people going into (this summer's contract) negotiations got substantial bonuses, they would feel good going into them," he added.
Hourly workers at Chrysler were awarded a $750 bonus this year. Ford Motor Co. said it would pay an average bonus of $5,000 to its blue-collar staff.
