U.S. markets recover from steep losses

NEW YORK, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. markets were closed Monday, while action on exchanges in London and Tokyo were mixed.
U.S. markets were closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
In London, the FTSE 100 closed down 16.37, or 0.27 percent, at 5,985.70.
The Nikkei average in Tokyo closed up 3.82, or 0.04 percent, at 10.502.86.
The euro fell to $1.3290 from Friday's $1.3378. Against the yen, the dollar was trading for 82.82 yen from 82.94 yen on Friday.
The 10-year note was at 3.3 percent.
