TW, Sinclair extend cable fee talks

NEW YORK, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Sinclair Broadcasting Group says it agreed to extend the deadline for negotiations on retransmission fees with Time Warner Cable.

Sinclair owns 33 television stations in markets including Pittsburgh, San Antonio and Tampa, Fla., and it seeking an increase in the fees it gets from Time Warner to carry those stations on their local cable systems.

The talks were to have broken off Friday; however, the deadline was extended to Jan. 14.

CNN/Money said Saturday the dispute boils down to Sinclair's demand for a 10-cent per user increase in its retransmission fee, which would cost Time Warner an estimated $850,000.
