Walmart recalls electric heaters

WASHINGTON, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. retail giant Walmart is recalling 2.2 million electric comfort heaters due to risks of fire, a federal watchdog agency said.

The retailer, based in Bentonville, Ark., has received 21 reports of malfunctioning electric heaters. Eleven of the reports included reports of property damage "beyond the heater," the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The recall involves Flow Pro, Airtech, Aloha Breeze and Comfort Essentials 1,500 watt heaters, which are gray with a metal handle on top and control knobs on the front.

The recalled heaters were imported from China and sold at Walmart stores from December 2001 through October 2009 for about $18.

Consumers were advised to stop using the heaters and return them to any Walmart store for a full refund.
