Dollar Tree Halloween lanterns recalled

WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- About 682,000 Dollar Tree Halloween lanterns have been recalled because they could cause burns, a U.S. watchdog agency says.

The defective Pumpkin, Ghost and Skull Halloween Lanterns were imported from China by importer Greenbrier International Inc. of Chesapeake, Va., and sold nationwide at discount stores from August through October for about $1 each.

The bulb in the lanterns can overheat, posing a risk of burn and even of a fire, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement announcing voluntary recall.

The firm has received one report of a bulb overheating. There was no injury reported in the incident.

The lanterns were sold in black, white and orange. The model number printed on the bottom of the novelty item is 954437-13096-003-1005.

Consumers were advised to take the lanterns away from children, remove batteries and return them to the retailer for a full refund.

Consumers can call 800-876-8077 for information.
