WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of bicycle brakes imported from Taiwan from The Hive of Petaluma, Calif.
About 500 Revl carbon bicycle brakes were imported by Perigeum Development Inc., doing business as The Hive, and sold at bicycle shops nationwide from September 2009 through August 2010 for about $390 per set.
The cable clamping area on the brakes can causing brake failure, the commission said in a statement.
The recall involves black Revl carbon road bicycle brakes with date codes 41B, 44B, 45B, 53B, 13C and 16C.
Consumers were advised to stop using bicycles with these brakes and contact The Hive for replacement parts and instructions on how to repair the brakes. As an alternative, consumers can take the brakes to the retailer for a free repair.
Consumers can call 800-801-9936 for information.
