WATERLOO, Ontario, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Canada's Research In Motion Ltd. is set to launch a touch screen tablet computer with a QNX Software Systems platform, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

RIM purchased software company QNX this year and may switch its BlackBerry smartphones over to the new operating system as well, due to continued problems with the BlackBerry 6 operating system, sources said.

The digital reader is expected to require a BlackBerry phone to link to cellular networks, which sets up the possibility that it could be sold through network carriers or retail outlets.

The tablet is said to include a 7-inch screen and at least one camera, possibly more than one.

RIM would not comment on the device, which is being produced by Quanta Computer Inc., a Taiwanese firm, the Journal said.
