Hertz to buy Thrifty, dump Advantage

TULSA, Okla., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. auto rental company Hertz Global Holdings Inc. said Monday it had agreed to buy Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group for about $1.43 billion.

The deal, if it closes, ends a bidding war between Avis and Hertz. Avis had last offered Dollar Thrifty $1.3 billion, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Hertz said it would pay $50 per share to acquire Dollar Thrifty.

The cash and stock deal includes a $44.6 million reverse termination fee Hertz will pay if antitrust regulators squash the deal, which would jump the number of Hertz locations by about 33 percent.

Hertz Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Frissora said the board of directors had also agreed to divest Hertz of Advantage Rent-a-Car.
