CINCINNATI, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. household products giant Procter & Gamble said Tuesday consumers of its powdered laundry detergents will find smaller packages in stores next year.
The company said it will begin "compacting" the formulas of its entire U.S. and Canadian portfolio of powder laundry detergents, which will mean putting the same amount of cleaning capability in smaller packages.
The move will increase shipping efficiency and will "help reduce waste, save energy or save water," the company said.
"Powder compaction is a win-win from operations all the way through consumer use," the firm's vice president of sustainability, Len Sauers, said.
"If consumers dose as recommended, P&G could help save … the equivalent of the energy needed to provide 34,000 average homes with electricity for a year," the statement said.
