U.S. markets recover from steep losses

YIWU, China, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- The Chinese State Food and Drug Administration has drafted a plan to monitor the safety of cosmetics and beauty products, an official said Friday.
The official, who did not want his name used, told Xinhua, the official government news agency, the SFDA presented the plan at a conference in Yiwu. He said the administration plans to set up a safety commission and is considering the qualifications of agencies involved with the industry to regulate the safety of skin-care products and cosmetics.
China has not had any system to ensure the safety of beauty products. That became an issue in 2006 when chromium was found in products made in Japan by a division of the U.S. company Procter & Gamble and distributed in China.
