Drones over U.S. may pose security risks
NEW YORK, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- An Internet domain name auction failed to attract buyers to its biggest-selling Web addresses, a review of the New York sale by bid indicated.
XXX.com, by far the most expensive domain auctioned at DomainFest New York with a $5 million reserve price, found no takers. Neither did Alcohol.com, Patents.com, Physicians.com, Rate.com and Stocks.com, the New York Daily News reported.
The reserve prices for most of those Internet addresses started in the mid- to high six figures, the newspaper said.
A reserve, or reservation, price is the lowest price a seller is willing to accept for a good or service.
Tshirts.com, grouped with four related sites, was the big winner, selling for $1.27 million the day before the auction.
Disco.com -- tying into the dance music genre whose popularity peaked in the middle to late 1970s -- came in second at $255,000, a United Press International review of the auction results found.
Grocerystore.com was rung up for $32,500, Cigarbars.com went for $5,100, Hoarders.com was grabbed for possible future use at $1,500.
Jerseyshores.org sold for $300 -- the buyer evidently hoping to cash in on the MTV reality television series "Jersey Shore," which follows eight housemates spending their summer on the Atlantic coast of New Jersey.
Unsold names will be included in the extended auction, which runs until Aug. 25.
