Trump attempts to trump airport expansion

PALM BEACH, Fla., July 20 (UPI) -- Billionaire Donald Trump is suing Palm Beach County in Florida to block construction of a new runway at Palm Beach International Airport, court papers show.

The suit demands Bruce Pelly, the director of the airport, pay damages caused by jets flying over Trump's home, called Mar-a-Lago, The Palm Beach Post reported Tuesday.

Legally, Trump has to wait six months to include the county in his claim for damages. Trump's attorney Jim Beasley said the suit would be amended to include the county at that point.

Trump's suit claims the county could do more to reduce noise from jets flying over his home, the newspaper said. In a 1995 lawsuit, Trump claimed noise and exhaust from the jets were causing damage to the home.

The previous lawsuit was settled with a deal in which the county agreed to keep noise levels from rising in the future. In return, Trump built a luxury golf course on county land that the county agreed to lease to Trump after the threat of the lawsuit was dropped, the newspaper said.

The latest lawsuit provoked a complacent reaction from Pelly. "Ah, well, he's sued me before," he said.
