Grains closed mixed in Chicago

CHICAGO, July 20 (UPI) -- Grains closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Tuesday with soybeans closing higher and oats, wheat and corn closing lower.

Corn was off 5 1/4 to off 7 1/2, soybeans were up 1/2 to up 3 3/4, wheat was off 3 to off 5 1/4 and oats were off 4 1/2.

Corn prices dropped with rain in the Midwest considered beneficial. Wheat closed lower, also due to improved weather -- news from Egypt adding it had purchased 120,000 metric tons from Russian sources. Soybeans were up despite a report from India that crop planting was progressing ahead of expectations.

The prices:

Corn: Sep 3.74, off 7 1/2; Dec 3.87 1/2, off 6 1/2; Mar 4.00, off 6; May 4.08 1/4,. off 5 1/4.

Soybeans: Aug. 10.11 3/4, up 3 3/4; Sep 9.86 3/4, up 1/2; Nov 3.73, up 1; Jan 9.81, up 1.

Wheat: Sep 5.77, off 5 1/4; Dec 6.07, off 4 1/2; Mar 6.30, off 3 1/4, May 6.38 1/2, off 3.

Oats: Sep 2.56; Dec 2.63 1/2; Mar 2.70 1/2; May 2.77 1/2 -- all off 4 1/2.
