Russia aims for 90 percent Internet use

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, June 18 (UPI) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the number of Russians using the Internet would triple in the near future to 90 percent of the population.

About a third of Russians now use the Internet, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

At the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, Medvedev said, "We set rather ambitious goals to increase the number of Internet users in several years to the highest rate, perhaps 90 people out of 100."

He said by 2015 broadband access would be available to 60 percent of Russians.
