TORRANCE, Calif., March 16 (UPI) -- Honda Motors Co. Inc. issued a recall of 412,000 U.S. vehicles Tuesday due to problems in braking systems in Odyssey and Element models.
The majority of the vehicles recalled to fix Vehicle Stability Assist modulators involved Odyssey minivans. Honda said 344,000 Odysseys and 68,000 Elements from model years 2007-2008 were involved in the recall.
"Some VSA modulators were assembled in a manner that could allow air intrusion, making it possible for air to enter the modulator during the VSA self-check mode," Honda said in a statement.
While "minuscule" amounts of air enter the system with each check, over time the vehicle brakes can become "soft," the automaker said.
Honda said not all cars in the recall would experience problems, but the owners were advised to bring the cars to authorized dealerships as a safety precaution.
The company said it would send notification to Honda owners at the end of April. Owners were instructed to contact a Honda dealer after receiving notification.
