HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- NASA says it has exercised a second one-year contract option with Bastion Technologies Inc. of Houston for continued safety and mission assurance in Alabama.

The contract extension at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., runs through Jan. 31, 2011, and brings the potential value of the contract to $136 million. Subsequent unexercised options and award terms would extend the period of performance to 2017, with a potential value of more than $376 million, NASA said.

Bastion provides services, equipment and supplies associated with industrial safety and system safety, reliability and maintainability engineering associated with the design and development engineering and testing performed by Marshall, NASA said. The contract also provides safety and mission assurance management information, quality assurance and quality engineering, independent assessment services and documentation, project assurance and risk management.
