NASHVILLE, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The parent company of Captain D's Seafood is looking for a buyer for the Tennessee-based fast-food chain, company officials say.
Sagittarius Brands bought Captain D's in 2005. The company acquired Del Taco, a Mexican chain, in 2006.
Technomic Inc., a research firm, said Captain D's sales dropped 4 percent in 2008, while Del Taco's were up 2 percent, The Nashville Tennessean reported. Darren Tristano, a Technomics analyst, suggested that might be a reason for the sale.
"You make a decision that you'd rather commit all your energy into what you feel is a winner," he said.
But Tristano also said Captain D's has been trying to morph into a casual dining restaurant, which could attract buyers.
Captain D's, headquartered in Nashville, operates 537 restaurants in the United States. The chain is strongest in the South and Midwest.
