Grain futures close mixed Thursday

CHICAGO, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Grain futures closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Thursday, closing out the year with a light trading day.

Corn was up 1/4 to up 3/4, soybeans were up 3 1/2 to up 4 1/2, wheat was off 3 1/4 to off 3 3/4 and oats were up 3/4.

Corn futures swung higher with the week's export sales at 772,500 metric tons, close to expectations. Wheat prices dropped with Egypt giving notice it intends to expand wheat imports from Russia. Net soybean sales in a U.S. Department of Agriculture Export Report came in at 799,000 metric tons for the current marketing year -- also in line with expectations.

The prices:

Corn: Mar 4.14 1/2, up 3/4; May 4.24 1/4, up 3/4; Jul 4.33, up 3/4; Sep 4.37 1/2, up 1/4.

Soybeans: Jan 10.39 3/4, up 3 1/2; Mar 10.48 1/2, up 4; May 10.53 3/4, up 4 1/4; Jul 10.59 1/4, up 4 1/2.

Wheat: Mar 5.41 1/2, off 3 1/4; May 5.55, off 3 1/4; Jul 5.66, off 3 3/4; Sep 5.80 1/4, off 3 3/4.

Oats: Mar 2.77; May 2.85; Jul 2.93 1/2; Sep 3.01 -- all up 3/4.
