Consumer prices up in Germany

WIESBADEN, Germany, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Consumer prices in Germany rose 0.4 percent in November, putting the inflation rate positive for the first time since June, the government said.

The Federal Statistics Office said consumer prices excluding fuel rose 0.7 percent.

Overall, fuel prices in November were down 2.5 percent from November 2008, while the cost of electricity rose 5.8 percent.

Food prices dropped 2.2 percent from November 2008, the report said. Prices for durable goods -- items expected to last more than three years -- dropped slightly, off 0.3 percent from a year ago.
