Experts: Holidays good time for job hunt

WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The holiday season is one of the best times of the year for job-seekers to contact potential employers, U.S. business experts say.

Contrary to popular perceptions there's no use sending out resumes in December when employers are taking holiday vacations, experts say it's actually a good time to make initial contacts because a lot of hiring is done later in January, CNN reported.

"There is a certain pattern to when companies hire in general," Rob Saam, a senior vice president at outplacement firm Lee Hecht Harrison, told the U.S. broadcaster. "There is more hiring in January than December, but the thing about a job search is that it's a process so you should start looking before that."

"Job seekers shouldn't let the holidays slow their job search," agreed Carolyn Thompson of the Washington boutique staffing firm CMCS. "There are still the same number of jobs open, but actually less candidates looking because people are busy gearing up for the holidays."
