U.S. markets recover from steep losses
DETROIT, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. automaker General Motors Co. said it shifted jobs for executives Bob Lutz and Steve Girsky Friday, as part of a broad company shake-up.
GM named Mark Reuss, formerly vice president of engineering, as president of GM North America.
Lutz, GM's vice chairman, and Girsky, who was appointed to the board by the United Auto Workers, were both named special advisers, The Detroit News reported.
Edward Whitacre Jr., the chairman who took the role of interim chief executive officer this week with Fritz Henderson's abrupt resignation, said he was not "a car guy," and said he had much to learn from Lutz.
The company is looking for a permanent CEO and a new chief financial officer.
Henderson, appointed eight months ago by the U.S. Treasury to take over as CEO, resigned Tuesday. Whitacre, at the time, said GM needed to accelerate changes.
GM's president of international operations, Nick Reilly, was named president of GM Europe. Tim Lee, group vice president for manufacturing and labor relations, will take Reilly's current position.
Recently named as GM's top sales official, Susan Docherty was promoted to vice president, vehicle sales, service and marketing operations. Diana Tremblay will move from labor relations to vice president of manufacturing and labor relations.
